Wargrave Falcons3 - 7Tilehurst Panthers

The girls continued their fantastic early season form against an ever improving Wargrave team.
After a slow start Sam produced what will probably be goal of the season. She shot from the edge of the center circle. It flew past the Gk just under the cross bar. Even the Wargrave parents and coaches applauded. Lauren then got her 1st goal of the season with the help of a big deflection off a Wargrave defender. After Wargrave got 1 back Lauren got her 2nd and Panthers 3rd. 3-1 half time. Lauren started the 2nd half as she finished the 1st. After making the gk make a good save 1 on 1 she came out on top in the next 1 on 1 firing the ball into the roof of the net. The girls were playing some fantastic football at this stage. The passing and movement was fantastic. Leah got her 3rd goal of the season with a 1st time strike from a corner. This was quickly followed by her 2nd of the match and 4th of the season. Leah has added a real goal threat for us this season. Ava got a well deserved goal to make it 7-1. After a flurry of substitutions, the girls lost a bit of shape which Wargrave made the most of and scored the last 2 goals of the game making it 7-3. Tegan and Georgia again were solid at the back, Isabel Again looked very comfortable in central midfield and seems to be relishing wearing the captains armband. Elizabeths handling of the ball was excellent. Alice was player of the after her best performance for Panthers. Apart from covering every blade of grass, Every thing she done was quality. Dribbling, tackling, passing and communicating. All perfect.

Tilehurst Panthers3 - 0Laurel Park Starz

Panthers 3 Laurel Park 0
This was the girls 1st ever 9-a-side game. This format really suits them. They were awesome. Right from kick off, the girls were in control. Sam, Georgia and Tegan were unbeatable at the back and denied Laurel Park any chances. Having taken over the Captains armband due to Danielle`s long term injury, Isabel completely controlled the midfield with her non stop work rate. Alongside her Ava always looked dangerous going forward and Chloe done a lot of unselfish covering in the middle to allow others to get forward. Up front, Lauren and Alice gave the opposition a torrid time. Leah had a superb debut.
In the 1st half,Panthers were kept at bay by a great performance by Laurel Parks GK. She made 5 really good saves to keep it 0-0 at half time.
The second half continued in the same way. Lots of great attacking play including lots of great passing and overlapping.
Panthers were awarded a penalty for what looked like an accidental handball.Lauren stepped up and sensibly tried to put the ball low into the corner. It was well struck, but just narrowly missed. She didn't let it affect her game, instead she went on to win the player of the match award. She was a constant threat up front. She held the ball up well and brought team mates in to the game well and put across 10 corners that were delivered perfectly. Within 2 minutes of the penalty, Panthers were in front. Sam had been pushing up from the back to add numbers to our attacks, when she picked the ball up 25 yards out, stormed passed 2 defenders and shot the ball hard and low in to the far corner of the net.
Panthers kept the pressure on and they were soon 2 up when Leah scored her 1st goal for us on her debut, which was quickly followed by her 2nd when she pounced on a short goal kick, shooting 1st time into the corner of the net.
Although Elizabeth didnt have much to do in goal for the Panthers, she kept her concentration for the whole game and mopped up anything that got through the back line.
An outstanding start to the season by everyone. And that includes the parents, who helped with goals, corner flags and many thanks to Phil for running the line for the girls. Thanks also to Jessica and Katherine for turning up to support their new team mates after having the dissapointment of not being registered to play.
